About Tech Tours
Tech Tours operates out of the Office of Special Recruitment Programs, which falls under the Office of Undergraduate Admission. Tech tours are available Monday-Friday at 11am and 2pm, and tours are approximately 1.5 hours long. Because some tours run over 1.5 hours, tour guides are expected to block out two hours for tours each week in their schedules. Each tour guide is expected to give one tour per week during school sessions (except holidays). In order to give tours, a guide must have at least two times in the week when a two-hour tour can be given beginning at 11am or 2pm. Once the schedule is finalized for a particular semester, a guide need only keep the two-hour time block open during his/her scheduled time slot.
Tours are given during school sessions and in between, and the only times that tours are not offered is when Georgia Tech is closed for a holiday. At times when school is not in session (winter break, spring break, and interim weeks between semesters), regular tour guides can give tours for pay with approval from the Assistant Director of Special Recruitment Programs.
In order to apply, a student must have completed at least one semester at Georgia Tech and have achieved a 2.2 GPA or higher. New tour guides go through a period of shadowing during their first 2 weeks of touring to learn the tour route and information. All tour guides, new and old, also attend a mandatory training session at the beginning of each semester to learn about new things happening around campus.
Applications can be sent via email at leslie.jackson@admission.gatech.edu or turned into the Special Programs Office, 2nd Floor of the Student Success Center. When applying, you should sign up for an interview time. Applications are due no later than 5pm on Friday, November 6, 2009. Interviews will be conducted from 7-9pm on November 9th and 10th in the Success center.
